What Is the Teams Catch Up Feature and How Does It Work?

If you’ve ever unlocked your phone after a few hours away and been greeted by a wall of Teams notifications across a dozen different chats, channels, and meeting threads. The new Catch Up feature in Microsoft Teams mobile is rolling out now, and it’s designed to solve one of the most common pain points for Teams users on the go: figuring out what actually needs your attention.

What Is Catch Up?

Catch Up is a consolidated view within Teams Mobile that surfaces messages requiring your response. Rather than scrolling through multiple chats, channels, and meeting threads separately, everything that matters appears in a single unified view.

This experience is exciting because it uses a card-based layout optimized for mobile screens. Pulling in mentions, replies in followed channels and threads, and chats or meeting conversations where a response or action may be needed.

How Does It Work?

New buttons and swipe actions allow you to act on important messages directly from the Catch Up view, without opening each individual conversation.

The feature pulls in information from across chats, meeting chats, and followed channels or threads. Think of it as a triage queue as you swipe, respond, or dismiss, and move on.

Who Gets It and When?

Catch Up turns on automatically for every user; admins don’t need to lift a finger. Once the feature lands, you will see a new card-based view in the Chat section of Teams mobile.

Worth noting: the original target was early May 2026, so if you haven’t seen it yet in your tenant, it may still be on the way.

This feature is mobile-only. There is currently no announced equivalent for Teams on desktop.

Why It Matters

Teams mobile has long been the gap in the user experience story as it is powerful on desktop, but overwhelming on a phone screen when you’re stepping out of a meeting or traveling between client sites. Catch Up addresses that directly by reducing the cognitive load of returning to Teams after time away.

For end users, this is a quality-of-life win. For organizations thinking about Teams adoption and governance, it’s a signal that Microsoft is continuing to invest in the mobile experience as a first-class surface, not an afterthought.

Catch Up won’t change how you use Teams on your laptop. But if you live in Teams mobile such as managing approvals, responding to DMs, keeping tabs on active channels while away from your desk this is a meaningful improvement. Card-based with swipe actions is a far more humane experience than hunting through a notification list.

Look for it in your Teams mobile app Chat tab as the rollout completes through late June.
