Easily Add And Use Event Images In Customer Insights – Journeys

Sometimes new things just pop up in Dynamics 365 and specifically in Customer Insights – Journeys. This one is such a little thing but makes for a better user experience and perhaps less confusing for people how to then use it in emails. That is, the control for adding an and then use event images on an Event record. In this post I will show what the process used to look like and what it looks like now. Very quick and simple!

First, this shows you what it was for the original Event Image field, which still exists and can be used. I’ve used this in the past, and you can even add a custom control to it so that you get a pop up to add or find the image a bit easier. So you can keep using it if you wanted to without issues. However, if you are using the standard form you might notice it’s missing so check to be sure.

Now we have the Event Image URL field. This is the new one.

With this one, you have a lovely control that should look familiar to you where you have the ability to browse the asset library in Customer Insights – Journeys, upload or insert from URL. No fiddling about, just add your image.

You will also be able to see the image without having to open anything which makes it easier to confirm you have the correct one.

Here is the different when linking to the image on an email. Both can be accessed via a trigger and going through from the Marketing Event Registration Created (you can of course use other triggers related to the Event) then through to the Marketing Event Reference. From there, with the Event image, you needed to then go and get the BLOB CDN URL. This wasn’t so obvious that this was the correct value.

With the new Event Image URL you can simply go directly to that value. This is actually storing the URL of the image directly on the Event rather than having to jump through several records to get to it.

Something very small but makes things a bit easier for users to figure out how to pull images in dynamically. Thank you Microsoft!
