Business Event activation error – D365FO

Recently we faced an issue when trying to activate the standard business event ‘Release Production order’ .

Failed to update BusinessEventsConfiguration 00002681-0000-0000-e457-005001000000 FnoConfigurationCdsContext in F&O.rnUser does not have access to create configurations for Business event ProductionOrderReleasedBusinessEvent

This issue didnt occur in Dev VMs and occured in sandbox.

What is the solution?

Go to Feature Management. Filter for ‘Business event catalog Security’.

The above error occurs when this feature is enabled.

Disable the feature.

Purpose of this feature:

To restrict the access when business event is used in the system.

Below table is an extract from MS link which tells about the security artifacts needed for each action in business event.

Enabling this feature is from Feature Management -> Business events catalog security.

To complete the configuration,

  • Navigate to the business events catalog by going to System administration > Set up > Business events > Business events catalog.
  • Within the catalog, use the Security tab to map each business event to one or more roles.
  • To enable security, select Enable from the Security menu in the top navigation pane. An informational message will confirm whether security has been enabled or disabled.

Backward compatability

To avoid disruptions, make sure you understand the backward-compatibility behavior described above before enabling security for business events.

By default, role-based security for business events is turned off. Even if the feature is activated in Feature management, it won’t take effect until it is explicitly enabled in the business events catalog through the Security menu.

Once role-based security is fully enabled, enforcement begins. For users with an administrator role, the experience remains unchanged. However, non-administrator users will only see the business events assigned to their roles in the catalog security configuration—or they may see no events at all if none have been assigned.
