The end of Power Pages? (As we know it?)

Every week new features and techniques are dropping not only from Microsoft but other vendors. One of the latest movements is getting agents to utilize “skills” to execute and complete tasks.

Microsoft has just released to public preview a Claude code plug-in with skills to build, configure, and deploy Power Pages single page applications.

Is this the beginning of the end of traditional Power Pages configuration and development?

I tried it out and started with the same prompt I used a few months back to build the event website. The results were amazing, not only did it create the site, but also created the data model and Dataverse tables, created the table relationships, setup authentication and deployed and activated the site in the Power Platform environment!

Aside from my initial prompt, I barely touched the keyboard, and pretty much approved the plan and the steps, and provided guidance as Claude built and deployed the site.

What I did have to grab was my wallet… the process burned through my daily allocations 3 times before I upgraded from PRO to the MAX plan just to built the site. However, if I had to code that all from scratch, it would have taken me much longer. That also being said, if I configured the site using traditional tools like the design studio and the Power Pages management app, I would have been done likely a bit quicker, but it would not have looked as slick nor would I have had the same flexibility.

The good:

• Took the prompt and built and deployed a fully functional Power Pages site.
• I was skeptical about yet another Dataverse Copilot, but the Claude code Power Pages skills pieced together a working data model and recognized existing Dataverse tables (like Contact!)
• Constant “human in the loop” – created action plans and prompted for approval or feedback at the right times.

The not-so-good:

• Not solution aware! Arg! What?!?
• Token and resource hungry. You won’t be able to build sites on the Claude Code pro plan in one session.
• Still a few rough edges. It missed a few critical parts in setting up table permissions (forgot to add table!) and missed a WebAPI site setting.
• Authentication needs to be configured manually if using anything other than Entra ID.

Summary

While powerful, I feel that there still is a place for the traditional Power Pages tools to build and configure sites. Power Pages single page applications do provide an ability to build powerful and flexible sites, and have the benefits of the Dataverse integration, hosting, and security aspects of Power Pages. It will be interesting the see how this technology evolves and is adopted over the next few months.
