September 2026 M365 Champions Community call

Here’s a recap and top Q+A from our September M365 Champions monthly call of 2026. We kicked off the call annoucing a new Champion Stories program to showcase real-world Microsoft 365 Copilot adoption success stories from the Champions community. Organizations that have successfully introduced or scaled Copilot are invited to share their journey, lessons learned, and best practices. Selected stories will be professionally filmed and published to help other Champions learn from peer experiences. Submit your story at aka.ms/ChampionStory.

Lisa Miao Principal Product Manager from the OneDrive mobile team showcased a broad refresh of the OneDrive mobile and iPad experience, focused on making mobile productivity more comparable to the web experience while supporting users who work on the go. She demonstrated a redesigned iPad interface with an updated home experience, improved sharing views, new libraries filters, favorite sites, People and Meetings discovery experiences, and easier access to content shared with or by users. She explained that the team has invested heavily in bringing mobile and tablet experiences up to parity with the rest of OneDrive and highlighted new navigation and content discovery capabilities rolling out now across iOS and Android.

She also demoed several new productivity features, including offline file search that allows users to find downloaded files without an internet connection, a new file preview experience that supports confidential files and provides higher fidelity Word, Excel, and PowerPoint rendering, and Copilot-powered mobile document summaries that let users summarize and interact with Word and PDF files directly from the OneDrive app. Lisa closed with practical tips for mobile users, including enabling background app refresh, downloading folders for offline access before travel, and using OneDrive’s built-in document scanning capabilities to capture and automatically convert paper documents into PDFs. Visit the official OneDrive mobile app page for more information.

Q+A from this month’s session:

1. What OneDrive version number should we be looking for to ID as the new version? (I understand subsequent numbers will be higher as updates are released)

Answer: 18.10.2 is the latest version!

2. Would the updates be just for mobile/ipad or can we expect to see some of these changes in the OneDrive desktop app?

Answer: only for mobile currently- as far as Lisa knows at the moment

3. When will confidential file preview support come to Android OneDrive?
Answer: Lisa shared that the new confidential file preview experience is already shipped on iOS and is currently in Android beta. The expectation is to release broadly within the next two months, assuming the beta goes well, and no later than the end of the year.

4. Will the new OneDrive experiences come to the desktop app?

Answer: The features shown in the demo are focused on mobile experiences (iPhone, iPad, and Android). Lisa said she was not aware of plans to bring these specific capabilities to the desktop experience at this time.

5. What is the status of Microsoft’s Sway product? Is it being retired?

Answer: Community members raised concerns about a lack of updates. Jessie noted that they had not heard from the Sway team in some time and would follow up. During the discussion, it was clarified that the Sway desktop app was retired, but the web version continues to be supported, allowing users to create, edit, and view Sways online.

6. What is the best source for tracking new Microsoft 365 features and releases?

Answer: Jessie recommended the Microsoft 365 Roadmap as the authoritative source for rollout information and upcoming features.

7. When will the new Teams meeting controls experience roll out?

Answer: Tiffany referenced the July Teams meeting controls session and said the rollout was still expected during September, though if it did not arrive by month’s end the team would follow up with the product group for an updated timeline.

8. Can Copilot Skills be used for repetitive SharePoint document management tasks?

Answer: Lisa explained that Copilot skills available through Copilot should generally be accessible across Copilot surfaces, including SharePoint experiences, although there may be exceptions depending on the capability. She encouraged follow-up for more specific scenarios.

9. Is there a feature reference showing which capabilities are available in GCC and GCC High environments?

Answer: Tiffany acknowledged the need and noted that the team is working toward more tailored content for government and regulated environments to make it easier to identify relevant features and availability.

10. In my OneDrive mobile app on iPad mini 6, I see the option to generate an audio summary for files. Is this a OneDrive feature, or Copilot Premium feature?

Answer: Lisa believes it is OneDrive feature and not a Copilot feature.

11. This may be the wrong place to ask, but I haven’t seen it on the roadmap… when will SharePoint agents come to GCCH and when will Copilot in SharePoint come to GCCH? We are multi-cloud. Thanks!

Answer: Typically features come to GCC/GCCH one year after GA, we will reach out to SharePoint agents team to confirm. Thank you!

12. How is Microsoft addressing the gap between OneDrive web/mobile and desktop experiences?

Answer: Lisa Miao acknowledged the disparity and confirmed the OneDrive team is actively working to improve parity across platforms. She noted that desktop experiences are more complex due to Windows integration but said the feedback would be shared with the sync and desktop teams.

13. On iPad, users can generate audio summaries of files. Does this require Copilot Premium?

Lisa Miao stated that, to the best of her understanding during the call, Audio Summary is currently a OneDrive feature and not a Copilot Premium feature, although she wanted to verify with the team and noted that licensing could change in the future.

14. Where can I get the slides and resources from this call?

Answer: The deck is available to Champions through the Champion resources page linked in the Champion newsletter and welcome email both are sent to users signed up to be a member of the Champions community: sign up here!  Recording access is broader and will be made available through the Driving Adoption community and Microsoft Community Learning YouTube channel.
