Dynamics 365 Business Central: update sandbox environments to preview versions.

It’s now a common practice for many partners that, when the public preview period for a new Dynamics 365 Business Central major version starts (usually in March and September), a new sandbox environment with the released preview version is created in order to test the new functionalities.

But do you know that now you can also update a current sandbox environment to this public preview version?

This new possibility (that started with the preview version of Dynamics 365 Business Central version 27, so from September 2025) permits you to test Business Central features and updates with your own data and your installed extensions (PTEs, AppSource). 

To update one of your sandbox environments to the public preview release, just select the version listed as Preview and schedule an enviroment update:

Please only remember an important aspect:

Sandbox environments that have been updated to a preview version are subject to the same policies as environments directly created from scratch on a preview version:

• They cannot be updated to another version.
• They will be automatically deleted a month after the preview period ends (without notifications)

Be careful to update the right sandbox environment if you want to use this feature…
