Let AI check the spam score of your emails – Preview Feature – Dynamics 365 for Marketing with an AI twist

Does AI get you excited?

Even if the answer is No, you should still keep reading, because it could save you time and money. Using the new AI Spam Score feature Microsoft has in store for us, could make the difference between that crafted and personalised email reaching the audience you targeted and getting you this sale, as opposed to the same email getting stuck somewhere in a Spam Folder, which (let’s be honest) no one ever looks at.

Dynamics 365 for Marketing provides several artificial intelligence (AI) features. For details on the other features, watch this space.

Spam score – what can it do for us?

The spam score feature analyses the content of a marketing email and assigns it a score, which aims to predict how likely it is for the email to be flagged by the content – based spam filters. The lower the score, the more likely it is for the email to make it to your customer’s Inbox.

How to enable AI in D365 for Marketing?

When you set up a new Dynamics 365 for Marketing environment, all AI features are disabled by default. To enable them, go to: Settings > Advanced settings > Machine learning > Basic feature configuration.

You don’t need any minimum consent level for the Spam score functionality, as it doesn’t evaluate any personal data.

How to view your spam score?

Assuming you have already created a Marketing email with some content, there are 2 ways in which a spam score is calculated. Automatically when you Check for errors and Go live.

If your spam score has been calculated and is low, you will get a notification.

You can also check manually. Click on Preview > Check spam score, and you also get a nice little table with the potential reasons for the score.

It comes in 3 bands:

  • green (0 – 40),
  • yellow (40-80), and
  • red (80-100)

Green being good and red being you absolutely need to change your email, if you want it delivered.

Once live

You can’t check the score once the email is Live. In that case you would have to Stop it and then calculate the score.

Our take on it

Overall, this is a great feature. It gives you the comfort factor and the peace of mind that you haven’t made a simple mistake, that would compromise your entire campaign.

The only tiny issue we noticed was the refresh button on the spam score section. Feedback has been provided, so I will keep you posted.

Also to give credit where credit is due – it’s well worth mentioning the quick response we got when reporting the issue. Especially considering this is a preview feature, getting response in less than a few hours is both encouraging and impressive.

I would strongly encourage everybody who has some product feedback to provide, to do so here, because it feels extremely rewarding and satisfactory to be able to be part of the way the product is evolving and developing. I personally can’t wait to see where this Marketing with an AI twist takes us.

**As per Microsoft – This is a preview feature. A preview feature is a feature that is not complete but is made available before it’s officially in a release so customers can get early access and provide feedback. Preview features aren’t meant for production use and may have limited or restricted functionality.
