jBPM:

Java Business Process Management or jBPM is a very agile and flexible business management system suite. It allows you to execute, model or even monitor any business process throughout its respective life cycles. It is an open source,lightweight suite written in Java.

jBpm is a flexible, extensible workflow management system. Business processes , expressed in a simple and powerfull language and packaged in process archives, serve as input for the jBpm runtime server. jBpm bridges the gap between managers and developers by giving them a common language : the jBpm Process definition language (jPdl).

Why jBPM is important?

This has been a recurrent question and I find that it’s necessary to answer questions that provide a holistic overview of this topic. To begin with, BPM has been bridging the gap between developers, analysts, and end users by providing a variety of process management features and tools. These tools and features are helping developers and business users alike. There are domain-specific nodes that can be plugged into the palette, making it more comprehensive for the business users.

jBPM equips you with the adaptivity and flexibility which necessitates the creation of real-life models, which otherwise would be difficult to articulate. This brings back the autonomy to the end users by giving them control over the execution of certain processes, i.e. if it needs execution.

Also, note that jBPM isn’t just an Isolated Process Engine. It can assist you in modeling complex business logic by combining business processes with complex event processing and by incorporating specific business rules. It can be combined with the drool project which will support a unified environment, integrating these paradigms under which you model your business logic as a culmination of rules, processes, and events.
