There are some great out of the box triggers for events which I have written about before. One that seems to be missing though is a trigger that fires for a Session Registration. We have the Event Registration Trigger Created that fires, but what if you provide people with a way to register for specific sessions and need to send them information about it? Luckily this is a VERY easy trigger to create and one that does not need any code or developer stuff at all. Let’s look at how to create an Event Session Registration Trigger.
Go to the Triggers area and click New. Give the trigger a name, and make sure you have the top option selected for the trigger activating when a record related to a customer is created or updated. Then click Create.
A Contact is linked to a Session Registration so select that as the table, and that it will trigger when a new record was created. Save the trigger and make it live.
Once it’s live you can start using the trigger in emails and journeys. Let’s look at an email first. Adding any personalisation, we can link through from our new Event Session Registration trigger.
Going from the Session Registration we can then go directly in to the Session and find the fields we want to show on the email. You can find out more ways of adding specific speaker details by reviewing this post here on Session Check-ins.
Once you have your email(s) created and published, time to create your Journey. This will be a trigger based journey using your new Dataverse trigger. You can also add a condition for a specific Event if you wish by going from the trigger in to the Session Registration table, then pick the Event table, then click on the top option to Condition on an Event. This will then give you a look up so you can find the exact Event.
Then we can add in the email we want to send out. Ideally you have your Journey running for all sessions (and either for all Events or just one specific Event) so you will want to set the Repeat option to Immediately to make sure someone gets the right emails for all of the sessions they registered for.
And here we have it, a lovely email that is sent out when someone registers for a session. Lovely!
