It’s clear the deprecation of Lifecycle Services (LCS) has started as seen in the “LCS System Diagnostics being retired in September 2024 notification message”. Microsoft is removing features from LCS as part of the transition to the Power Platform Admin Center (PPAC). This is a big signal for organizations to start preparing for the transition as more LCS features will be deprecated in the coming months. it’s crucial for clients to understand the transition plan and what they need to do to ensure a smooth migration from Lifecycle Services (LCS) to the Power Platform Admin Center (PPAC).
Microsoft will provide manual migration options (January 2025) and automated migration tools (April 2025). Clients should decide if manual or automated migration makes sense for their environment, complexity and timeline. Start with pilot migrations in smaller environments to identify any issues.
The Power Platform Admin Center will have a different interface and tools compared to LCS. Make sure your Technical / functionals consultants, admin and development teams are familiar with the new environment management tools in PPAC. Invest in training early to prevent problems during migration and post-migration management.
The unified (ALM) experience in PPAC will integrate Power Platform apps and Finance & Operations apps, will have a more consistent development and deployment process. Review your existing DevOps pipelines and adjust them to take advantage of the new ALM workflows in PPAC.
Starting January 2024 the Unified Developer Experiences are available in Public Preview. By September 2024 clients should have already started testing these features in their development environments.
With PPAC’s unified platform clients will have better visibility into their usage of resources and licenses. Make sure your organization’s capacity needs align with the new storage, compute and licensing models. This is also a good opportunity to optimize costs.
For solution architects, it’s essential to start preparing clients for this transition today. Key action items include:
Ultimately, this roadmap to a unified admin experience in PPAC will reduce complexity, enhance operational efficiency, and create better synergies between Finance and Operations apps and the broader Power Platform ecosystem. The time to plan and adapt is now!
