Integrating Business Central with Microsoft Excel

In this Article, we will go through a simple integration between Microsoft Excel and Dynamics 365 Business Central. We can use Excel to create or edit the records which updates back to Business Central.

In order to do that, we will connect to Business Central and navigate to any page, here, we will go to the Resource List page and then Click on ‘Page’ option in the Ribbons and Click Edit in Excel and then the Excel file will be downloaded.

Click on the ‘Enable Editing’ and then on the right side of Excel, there will be Microsoft Dynamics Sign-In page. Click on the Sign-In and enter the Business Central Credential. Here, I’m using the Office 365 credential.

Once credentials entered, the data will be updated in the Excel along with the Data Connector Window.

Now, lets fill-in the data in any of the columns. Here, filling the ‘Education’ column.

After filling in the details, click ‘Publish’ in the Data Connector in order to update the data back to Business Central.

You can notice the status of the Excel updation into Business Central.

Now, let’s Open one of the Resource and view the ‘Education’ field and we see the data gets updated in Business Central.

As we are able to update the Business Central from Excel, let’s explore the options in the App Connector where we can change the Environment from Production to Sandbox and also switch Companies.

Data Connector where we have options for Refresh, Publish, Design and Environment.
