D365FO Data Entity Metadata in 10.0.40

A while ago I wrote a blog post on how you could obtain metadata about data entities within D365FO. Originally this was written against version 10.0.35, I wanted to update this for the 10.0.40 release.

As a refresher, this Excel has the following tabs:

• Metadata  – which shows the label, public collection name, and public entity name of each data entity
• Root Data Source – shows the primary or root data source of each data entity
• All Data Sources – shows all data sources present within the data entity definition

Future State

I think this type of information is valuable for developers and SysAdmins, so I plan on putting this type of Excel output of the data entities for each release going forward.

I also want to consolidate this with the security changes report I plan on running each release as well so I made a landing page to store this information: D365FO Version Metadata

I also plan on putting the functionality to output the data entity metadata into the D365FO Admin Toolkit in a future release so that others can create this easily as well.
