WPC is now in the rear view mirror

Well, I will have to say, WPC was a blast. I know it was a couple of months ago, but this is the first chance I had to write about it. Microsoft’s annual conference for partners was chock full of information. A laundry list of upcoming applications and features as well as the long overdue retirement of some applications, both of which will be of interest to our clients.

Before I dive into some of those items however, I feel compelled to toot my own horn a little… okay, I can hardly wait to share my minute in the limelight. I was honored to be asked to speak at this year’s event on Best Practices for Cloud Deployments to several hundred of my peers from around the world. Okay, my ego has been sufficiently stroked.

First, some bad news for some of you. Windows XP is ending. Throughout this event we were hammered with the message that if we have clients on either XP or Vista, we need to get them off. Preferably to Windows 8, but at least up to Windows 7. The problem is that all of the cool stuff that is happening and coming soon will not work on these old operating systems, it’s a simple as that. If you have XP or Vista machines in your environment, you need to be thinking about an upgrade. That is really the only news that some may consider bad, although once you bite the bullet and upgrade you will realize that even that was not a bad thing.

The good news is that everything is advancing rapidly. The whole gamut of Microsoft Cloud products is iterating fast. This is so “Un-Microsoft” but I am extremely happy about their new approach of rapidly releasing features and updates. I always have something new, and usually very cool, to talk to clients about. Highlights for me included the new features coming to Dynamics CRM in Q4, and the Power BI integration with SharePoint. This is a phenomenal time to be a Microsoft Partner or customer.
