Configure X++ dev for VS 2026

Configuring X++ dev in Visual Studio 2026 is fairly easy. We’ll be using this guide but leaving a few steps out.

Install VS 2026

Go to https://visualstudio.microsoft.com/thank-you-downloading-visual-studio/?… to download the latest.

Run the installer selecting the defaults, or whatever you’d like, but make sure the LocalDB option is checked.

Finish the installer then start up Visual Studio. Side note, Visual Studio 2026 is displayed as simply “Visual Studio” while all others have a year listed with the product name like Visual Studio 2022. Go to Extensions > Manage Extensions.

Let the installer finish after a VS restart. Next, go to tools > Download Dynamics 365 assets. Connect to an environment then you should see this in the output window.

Once complete, you’re ready to go.
