Release wave 2 2024 – Customer Insights – Data

Release wave 2 2024 is out, let’s take a look at the features that’ll come until March 2025 for Customer Insights – Data.

PP is Public Preview and GA is General Available.

I’ve also written a post about the release wave for Customer Insights – Journeys.

Accelerate time to insights with data in Delta Lake format

PP August ’24 / GA October ’24

Do you or your customer have lots and lots of data? Is your data warehouse growing your queue leading to slower insights? This feature can make an impact for you! With the new native support for Data Lake you can track the changes to the data and don’t have to import all the data, it uses incremental processing. All the tables needs to be Delta format, which is all the data using the Data Lake connector, and from February ’25 the Dataverse connector.

Use automation to manage segments and measures

PP August ’24 / GA October ’24

This is a feature that was in the previous release notes, that I was looking very much forward to. See what I wrote in the last post:

In several systems I’m working in, I see a lot of segments created. The more segments you have, the longer refresh times you have for the whole environment, which can make your system slower. With this magical feature, CI-D will deactivate, disable and pause segments based on how much it’s used. You can, if you’re an admin, turn the feature on or off and change the retention period. When you’ve used the system for a while, you’ll probably have a lot of segments, some of which have only been used once and will never be used again. Who cleans up their segments? Nobody, it’s not a priority for most companies, so the list of segments will just be growing.

Use Microsoft OneLake as a data source

PP October ’24

Connect to OnLake with Fabric as a datasource. Save the data in OneLake Delta format, you don’t have to worry about creating folders, it just works out of the box.

Simplify and centralize data sources using Dataverse

PP February ’25

No more need to connect to your Dataverse environment! It will be automatically linked to your CI-D. The Dataflows you’ve created in Dataverse will also be available to use in CI-D and if the DV environment is connected to Fabric, that will also make your Fabric instance available for CI-D. This will be a lot of improvements and making it easier for a lot of people using Dataverse (should be all of them!).

Generate insights from marketing interactions

PP October ’24 / GA December ’24

We’re ending with my favourite feature of this release! The ability to use behavioural data from CI-J over to CI-D and create segments and measures based on this data! Using marketing interaction data for emails such as:

  • Opens
  • Link clicked
  • Average number of days to open a link
  • None engaging customers (to create a retargeting strategy)

All this and the ability to create unified customer profiles from multiple contacts that’s combining the interaction data. This is especially helpful if you have multiple duplicates.

In this release it’s not a long list, but the features are big features, so there’s a lot of improvement! Make sure you keep up to date with the release planner!
