Escape Room App gone public!

WaldoBusiness Central16 hours ago30 Views

A while ago I wrote about the BCTalent Escape Room app, and why we built it:

I don’t have too much time for my monthly blog post (yep, it’s something I have to schedule for myself these days ) – but something rather important happened .. and I wanted to share this follow up.

Whenever I have been blogging or sharing ANYTHING about the Escape Room initiative – when doing online or offline session – whatever – people asked me:  “can we have it”.  Well .. now you have it 🤪.

Or at least – the framework behind the Escape Room concept has recently gone public as open source:

BCTech/non production apps at master · microsoft/BCTech

Only the framework

Before anyone asks: what is online is the framework, not the complete escape room content.  The reason for that is because Microsoft still wants to use it as actual workshop – and putting that online, would kind of spoil the fun.

So no: you’re not getting our full set of rooms, puzzles, story lines, solutions, and workshop scripts.  Yet.

But yes, you are getting the platform that makes it possible to build that kind of experience yourself.

Build your own rooms.

I know – starting without any examples is challenging.  So I did my best to make it as easy on you as at all possible, by documenting the CRAP out of it.

So – it’s not a “dump some code and run” repo.  I worked .. well .. I prompted quite extensively to have some kind of documentation that – for me – looked good enough to start.  I even challenged it to build yet another room (of which I can’t share the details just yet) – and it seems to be doing a good job!

So, let’s say it’s documented in a way that even AI can help you figure out how to use it 🤪.

Deep dives coming (Directions, Days of Knowledge, …)

I’m planning to do deeper dives on this when I get the chance at upcoming conferences like Directions, Days Of Knowledge – and if you think this would make sense as a full-day workshop at BCTechDays – let me know in the comments!

Because the interesting part is you can design your own .. about your product, about stuff that you find important to test people in – to train people in a fun way, for onboarding, for guided learning paths, internal training, feature adoption, … you name it!  🤯

And who knows – at some point – we’ll have a collection of Community-built escape rooms we can share among ourselves.  It all starts .. with this framework.

Enjoy!
